Historically Significant Keith Haring Artwork on Auction at Sotheby's November 15th

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 25, 2007 -- One of Keith Haring's most famous works of art is going up for auction. On November 15th, Sotheby's is putting Haring's iconic "Big Bad Wolf" on the auction block.

Painted in 1984, "Big Bad Wolf" is a seminal Haring work, created as a gift for his close friend and fellow pop-artist, Kenny Scharf. Like Haring, Scharf's use of bold colors and a flare for the surreal has made him well known since the 80's. With "Big Bad Wolf," Haring took cartoon imagery to a new level, portraying the wolf as simultaneously charming and daunting. Haring painted "Big Bad Wolf" on a huge five foot square canvas and dedicated the piece to Scharf. The bright, dramatic work stands as powerful testament to their long standing friendship.

Taken well before his time, Haring died in 1990. His lasting legacies include his art and his Foundation. The Keith Haring Foundation was established in 1989 to support AIDS-related and children's charities. During the past two decades, the Foundation has helped assist AIDS sufferers and children worldwide.
